AHYC RACING CLASS
Come and Bring Your Crew
For sailors who want to try racing, AHYC Race Committee is offering a racing course including classroom and on-the-water instruction to get you started. The course is free if you meet the two prerequisites for the course: A basic knowledge of sailing and,
A commitment to crew or race your boat in at least four races during the summer.
The second condition is because the purpose of this course is to enhance the racing at AHYC by creating better trained/coordinated crews for more efficient and relaxed racing.
The course will include:
| The different crew positions and their responsibilities when changing sails, jibing, coming about, etc. | |
| How to trim the sails and the boat for maximum speed and safety. | |
| How to use the current ( and find the marks). You will also need a New York Harbor Chart & Plotting Instruments for this part of the course. | |
| The racing rules and how to use them. | |
| The most important job for making the boat go fast. | |

The course will consist of 4 classroom sessions after work from 6:30 until 9:30,
3 sailing sessions after work, and one Sunday sailing session.

Sun. 6/25 Boat Practice: Mock Race
